Tours of Note: Rooney and the Polyphonic Spree

Tours

The Polyphonic Spree “Running Away”

I ‘m just as confused as you are. Rooney is a indie-pop band from California that make, for lack of a better term, “sunshine music” (which in my world means it’s music that demands to be listened to in the sunlight). It’s surprising that this is the band that would tour with the Polyphonic Spree, an army of a band (over 12 members) that consists of a choir and make-shift orchestra.

The Spree dropped a new album this year called “The Fragile Army.” On their current tour, they have gotten rid of their flowing robes and embraced their dark side, donning black uniforms.  I interviewed co-founder Julie Doyle a couple of months ago (she’s the wife of frontman and co-founder Tim DeLaughter) and she had this to say about the new album:

“The sound on the album is one that we were looking for early on,” says Doyle. “Back then, we were just calling on friends and then the band got going so we decided to roll with it. But artistically, it was time to make the record we’ve been wanting to make.”

I’ve heard it. It’s awesome. It’s also more cohesive than their past albums. And seeing this entire band on stage is nothing short of a trip.
