Reader Request-Missed Opportunities

Like Ahab, we all have our white whale, that band who continually comes into town that you consistently miss. For me, it’s Okkervil River.
(BTW: I find it interesting that I’m treating this post the same way i treated the concert. Waiting to do anything at the last minute).
They were in Boston last night (Tuesday, 9/24) at the Middle East and I wasn’t there. That’s right 52 shows fans (I’m speaking to all four of you), I failed you. Throw your stones at will.
I dunno why I didn’t get a ticket or even call Clay, the press guy at the club who I’ve gotten friendly with. I work at Tab Newspapers and would have been able to be put on the guest list. But no, instead I wanted to tempt fate, to flirt with danger and decided that 12 hours before the show, I would actively try to get in to the sold-out concert.
This isn’t the first time I’ve been this stupid. When I lived in Arizona, they came to a small club and the same thing happened. I dropped to my knees and vowed to the indie rock god in the sky that I would never be left outside an Okkervil River concert again. Yet, here I stand. Alone and without a kickass story to tell about the show.
So what band or musician are you chasing? Who’s your white whale? And, more importantly, have you learned from your missteps? I, obviously, have not.

My white whale, missed musical chair, what have you is Mellowdrone. But I refuse to fret as they are playing Beauty Bar soon. And as much as I’d love to keep it a secret…

My white whale would have been dylan- had tickets to see him 3 times and was unable to attend- broke the curse a couple of times now- but it was a long time coming-

I remembered another one. Lucinda Williams. So far it’s up to two. And each time, someone called me up the day after to tell me how amazing she was. God I suck.

Not quite a white whale, but I’m still sad I never got to see Agents of Good Roots when they still played. They would come through town all the time but always played 21+ bars and clubs. And I was too young to even have had a fake ID.

[...] The band that I constantly miss on tour has given me, and the rest of their fans, an early present for Christmas (Whatever. I’m sick of using “holiday” for everything). [...]
