The Decemberists have cancelled the remaining dates (of which there were plenty) on their “The Long and Short of It” tour. On their website the band writes that they are cancelling because one of the band members has been ill for a while, they hoped said band member would be better for the tour, but it has become obvious that this isn’t the case and they need to return home. Then they apologize and explain how it is an extreme situation. They want their fans to understand that they do not want to disappoint. And this fan wants to understand, I want to forgive, but dear Decemberists, when you end your apology with “but at this time no plans are being made to reschedule the dates,” really, that doesn’t move me to forgiveness. I did receive a very timely refund, but nothing says sincere apology like a reschedule. Granted, the other refunded show that was cancelled in the area over a year ago (sick wailing harpist Joanna Newsom) was also supposed to be rescheduled. This turned out to be an empty promise, or am I supposed to keep hoping? So really Decemberists, I guess if you know you’re not coming back, you at least crushed this listener in one fair stomp, so that’s something. Get better soon band member so you can shake that gypsy tambourine or squeeze that accordion or dance with a glockenspiel, I wish you the best.

There aren’t any details on the Decemberists fan forums about who is sick.
But — there are some intense fans on there.
