News: Mexican Country Stars being Murdered
December 18th, 2007 - by Eddie
We don’t normally do news like this, but it was so strange and heartbreaking that I felt it should be passed around.
According to the New York Times, it appears that Mexico’s country stars are being targeted and killed. Sergio Gomez, who is shown above and lead singer for K-Paz de la Sierra, was kidnapped after a concert on Dec. 2 in Michoacan. His body was found the next day on the road. Officials in the story said he was beaten, tortured with a cigarette lighter and strangled with a plastic cord.
On Dec. 1, Zayda Pena, lead singer for Zayda y los Culpables, was shot in her hotel room. She survived and was driven to the hospital where her killers apparently followed her to finish the job.
There are reports that the musicians may have had some ties with drug gangs, while other theories go towards some musicians writing “narcocorridos,” songs that glorify certain dealers and hit men, which can offend others.
Either way, it’s a strange story that people would be rubbing out Mexican country singers.
