With teevee writers officially hitting the picket lines today, timely talk shows will be the first casualties to drop their live schedules in favor of reruns. Many predict Leno, Letterman, etc will go dark as early as tonight.
But let’s roll through the lineups, just in case those folks work something out.
Band of Horses stop by Conan tonight… though the Washington Post isn’t very impressed by their live set.
The Backstreet Boys, fresh off hints of sexual victimization by their former manager, dance and stuff on Jimmy Kimmel Tuesday. Backstreet’s back… Anyone? Bueller, Bueller…
Pittsburgh Slim is on Carson Daly Wednesday. I only mention this because the name sounds like Langhorne Slim. I would totally watch Langhorne on teevee. Sure, that really has nothing to do with Pittsburgh Slim.
Reclusive Fats Domino emerges from hiding this week to perform with Norah Jones on Letterman Thursday. The 79 year old rarely travels, but he’s coming out to support Goin’ Home, a tribute project. So this would’ve been sorta special. And he would have gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for those meddling, striking writers!
And perhaps the biggest letdown of this whole writers strike — Amy Winehouse was scheduled to appear on Saturday Night Live. Like a Nascar event called off at the last minute because of rain, we were oh so close to watching a high-speed wreck unravel live before our eyes. Bummer.
Check out the entire late night music schedule after the jump.
Reruns, reruns, reruns this week. Jimmy Kimmel is the only guy putting on new shows this week, mostly yawners.
It’s a good week to head to bed early and catch up some Zzz’s. Or stick around and close out the bars. Whatever it is you do when you’re not watching teevee.

Here is an interesting take on a “live” performance. It is a highly choreographed “backwards” performance from the band MuteMath on Jimmy Kimmel Live. It’s the band’s attempt to duplicate their music video for “Typical” in a live setting- sort of an interesting experiment- definitely entertaining. Check out the video of their performance on Kimmel & the Actual Video. If you haven’t checked out MuteMath’s self titled release- do so- very solid- reminds me of The Police.
Hellogoodbye drops a load of gooey synth-pop on Carson Daly Tuesday
Watch Rogue Wave on Conan Wednesday before you hear their melodies in (more) movies and tv shows
Thursday, Cold War Kids hit Leno fresh off the Austin City Limits fest. Afterwards, Ben Lee plays Craig Ferguson fresh off Mandy Moore.
The Editors play Leno on Friday.
But we’re all just passing time this week until Barry Manilow croons on Jimmy Kimmel Friday. You can’t tell me you won’t be glued to the tube praying for the Man to lay out some Mandy.
